A First for the Farm

A First for the Farm

we decided that when our boys turn 5 they get their own bred heifer. last fall our oldest got his. he named her Sunny, picked her tag colour, and has helped care for her and the rest of the herd ever since. yesterday sunny had her first calf and now he gets to make his first big decision… he can choose to sell the calf or keep her - if she’s a heifer and growing well.

this is how we’re raising him. teaching responsibility, value, work ethic, and care by giving him something real to tend to. instead of an allowance or a piggy bank we’re giving him the chance to earn, to learn, to watch the rewards of his work grow in front of him. we fully recognize what a huge blessing this is, while also acknowledging all of our own blood, sweat and tears it has taken to make this our reality.

a core memory for all of us and one of the many ways we hope to raise boys who are grounded, capable, and proud of what they’ve built.

of course, in Corbin fashion, Sunny is the best and most attentive mama in our group of bred heifers (and they’ve all been great). she’s the best looking AND having Corbin a cutie little heifer which he has name Stella 🥹

i never want to forget this special moment ❤️
